What size is a LinkedIn banner?
1584 x 396 pixels — a 4:1 strip. That is the size LinkedIn renders a personal profile cover at, and uploading at those exact dimensions is the only way to know what people will see. Anything squarer gets centre-cropped, and anything smaller looks soft on a high-resolution screen.
JPG, PNG, and static GIF are accepted. This tool exports PNG at exactly 1584px wide regardless of your screen size.
Where not to put anything important
A banner is not shown on its own. Two things eat into it on a real profile:
- Your profile photo overlaps the lower-left on desktop, covering roughly the first fifth of the width and over half the height there. Text behind it disappears completely.
- The mobile crop narrows the visible strip from both sides, so anything near the left or right edge is cut on a phone — where most profile views happen.
The practical rule: centre-right, vertically centred, and nothing you cannot afford to lose within about 14% of either edge.
